What is Three Blind Mice Solitaire?
Three Blind Mice Solitaire is a creative variation of Scorpion Solitaire that gets its name from the three columns that begin with hidden cards. The gameplay rules are almost identical to Scorpion — you build descending sequences in suit and complete King-to-Ace runs — but the starting arrangement changes everything. Instead of seven columns, the tableau is spread across ten columns of five cards each, with the last three columns partially face-down. In addition, two cards are dealt face-up outside the tableau as extra helpers, functioning like reserve cards that can be played at any time. This new setup introduces both fresh challenges and new opportunities for tactical play.
How to Play Three Blind Mice
Objective
The aim is to construct four complete suit sequences running King down to Ace. Once a full sequence is formed, it is automatically moved to the foundation. Win by completing all four suits.
Setup
- Deck: One standard 52-card deck.
- Tableau: 10 columns with 5 cards each (50 total).
- Columns 1–7: all five cards face-up.
- Columns 8–10: the bottom two cards face-up, the top three cards face-down (the “three blind mice”).
- Extra cards: 2 cards are set aside face-up outside the tableau. These cards can be played onto the tableau at any point in the game, similar to free cells.
- Foundation: Complete King-to-Ace sequences are automatically moved here. The game ends in victory when all four suits are completed.
Rules
- Building: Cards build down in the same suit (for example, 9♥ goes on 10♥).
- Moving groups: You may move any face-up card along with the stack above it, provided the move maintains an in-suit descending sequence.
- Flipping: When a face-down card in the tableau is uncovered, flip it face-up immediately.
- Empty spaces: Only a King (or a pile topped by a King) may be placed into an empty column.
- Using the extra cards: The two face-up reserve cards can be played at any time, giving you flexibility to unlock sequences or extend runs.
- Completed runs: Full King-to-Ace suit sequences are automatically moved to the foundation.
